Our mission is to bridge the gap between birth
and adoptive families by portraying the complexities of adoption through diverse personal
stories of adult adoptees, birthparents and adoptive parents in both same race and
transracial adoptions highlighting the lifelong process of adoption and issues of loss,
identity and the need to know the truth.
The non-profit fiscal sponsor of Unlocking the Heart of Adoption is
the San Francisco Film Society.
Our goal is to be a catalyst to change closed
adoption record laws, which promote secrecy and shame and treats adoptees as second class
citizens, to give adult adoptees unconditional access to their original birth
certificate. And to inspire openness and honesty in adoption through discussion and
action in birth and adoptive families, adoption agencies, state legislatures and the
general public.
Outreach includes the public television broadcast, advocacy screenings in states
with pending adult adoptee civil rights legislation and for Unlocking the Heart of
Adoption to serve as a training tool for staff and clients in foster and adoption
agencies, and educational institutions.
And please contact us, if you have a venue or group
that would like to host an advocacy screening. Thank you!
